We left the hospital at 7:30 PM tonight. It was great to see the boys and they were very happy to see us. First thing Braydon says, "Mommy, how come you waited to come home so late?" Even our dog Daisy seemed excited to see us return home. I'm particularly looking forward to sleeping in our own bed.
Oh ya, the second thing Braydon said to Mommy, "Can I see the cut on your belly; is it all better?" . . . Ummmmmm, uuhhhhhh, welllll, maybe tomorrow, Braydon. So what do you think? Is he going to forget about it? Nah, I don't think so. I'm curious how many times Dre can change the subject, make up an excuse, or dodge the question before he pins her down . . . this is going to be entertaining to watch. :P Dre tells me that she hasn't really looked at it, yet.
It was hard to say "see ya later, Siena." It was sad to leave at the same time as other couples who were happy and excited to go home with their new family member. The other side of the coin is that in several weeks, we'll parade out of NICU happy to take our baby home while other parents are just settling in with the same state of joy mixed with fear, uncertainty, and sadness that we feel. When that time comes I will leave happy, but with such great compassion and soulful prayers for our NICU neighbors.
Don't be mistaken, though. Today was a very good day. Siena's jaundice has cleared up, she is eating more, her sugars are more stable, Dre had the chance to cuddle with Siena for over an hour, and we got to go home and kiss our boys good night. That is a great day!
